Have you ever dreamed of half of a farm for you alone, in the middle of a unique part of the province Drenthe? Feel welcome in the beautiful group accomodation “De Rolderrug”. An unknown oasis located naar a historic UNESCO-area. Have you ever been so close to a site where a mammoth was found, an Iron Age farm or a dolmen? 

It’s a place to exhale, and be yourself! Enjoy the large group rooms which are comfortable, and feel right at home with beautiful wooden beams everywhere in the farm. Integrated within these rooms are a gym, fireplace, and kitchen, for which all amenities are provided. You could also pay a visit to the garden, where you can laze in the hammock, gaze at the stars or have fun barbecuing on the fire pit.

On the first floor: there are two well-kept showers and two toilets complete with bathroom accessories. There are three single rooms and three double rooms. Each room includes: a sink, box spring bed, pillow, duvet, fresh mattresses, pillow protectors, fresh bed linen, a Velux window with curtain, a radiator and a door lock. The entire group accommodation meets all safety requirements and is provided with enough warmth through the thick walls of the farm so that it is not too cold in winter, nor is it too hot in summer. In addition, there is sound insulation, with beautiful acoustics for those who like to make music. The view from the room is unobstructed, so that you can truly feel submersed in nature, even if you are inside. The other half of the farm is inhabited and is closed off for visitors. But the group accommodation should be enough, as it makes you feel free, yet private. Furthermore, the farm’s parking lot is large enough for six cars or several (motor) bicycles.

After a ten-minute walk from the farm, you will find forests, heathland, Scottish Highlanders and deer that will nearly make you forget all about modern life. When you cycle past the sheep, horses and cows it will seem like you have traveled back in time to the sixteenth century famous village of Orvelte. There are lots of sights to see and fun activities to partake in. Where else can you find a sheepfold in the middle of a village? Near the cage there’s a sign that shows what time the shepherd and his dog leave with their flock of sheep as they walk through the village in the summer. In the winter you’ll surely experience the hospitality of the villagers, and you’ll be able to skate on a beautiful natural ice rink. You’ll be able to take beautiful pictures of nature in this primeval area. Go where no footprints have gone before.

Within 10 km lie picturesque forest lakes with clear water and fine sandy beaches. Lakes like Kibbelkoele and Ieberenplas are especially fun for families. Lake Ellertshaar allows for you to walk freely with your dogs and to swim alongside them. Whenever you go on a trip, you can choose between the original shops and picturesque markets before doing some indoor shopping in Emmen, visiting the Ellert and Brammert museum in Schoonoord, canoe trips nearby, the climbing park and mini golf course in Wezuperbrug, and the famous boat trip through Emmen’s zoo. You could learn something new in a workshop nearby such as nature photography, painting, herding sheep, shooting clay pigeons or felting fur. The group accommodation has no disabled facilities, so make sure to be extra careful with the doorsteps and stairs among other things. Outside, the terrain is not leveled. If you are reasonably handy with a walker and have guidance for climbing stairs and showering, a stay, under your own responsibility of course, is probably very possible, as previous instances have shown. There are no facilities for infants in the group accommodation. The group accommodation is not completely fenced, so parents are expected to supervise their children at all times. Luckily, private rooms are available, so why not relax with a glass of wine on the terrace? Here, the starry night sky reveals its twinkling secrets, sometimes even giving us a glimpse of the famed northern lights. The more you relax in De Rolderrug, the more your blossoming character will become visible to your partner and children.
